Sri Lanka has surpassed most other countries in alcohol consumption, according to a national survey on alcohol consumption.
According to the National Survey on Drug Abuse 2019, out of the total population of the country, 30 million one hundred and forty-three people use alcohol.
The survey was conducted jointly by the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Drug Abuse and the Sri Lanka Police. According to this census, there are thirty-four thousand four hundred and fifty-seven men who drink alcohol. Twenty-five hundred and eighty-six women use alcohol. One hundred and twenty-one thousand seventy-seven men and ninety-six women under the age of 18 have used alcohol.
It is said that among the people who are over the age of 18 years, the number of men who use alcohol is 2359,380.
According to the report, four hundred and forty-five thousand in Central Province have used alcohol. Out of which 442529 are males and 2500 females.
It has been revealed that in Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya Districts 193,654, 82800 and 16,6075 persons are under the influence of alcohol. The number of women consuming alcohol in these three districts is 812, 332 and 1410 respectively.
